Bail Granted to BJP Leader in Assault Case

In Bhubaneswar, senior BJP figure Jagannath Pradhan was released on bail by the Khurda District Sessions Court on Tuesday. This decision comes in connection with an incident involving the alleged assault of Ratnakar Sahoo, the Additional Commissioner of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Pradhan had been taken into custody on June 29 and was held at Jharpada Special Jail after his initial bail request was denied by the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) Court.

Following this, his legal representatives appealed to the Sessions Court, which ultimately granted him bail.

The attack on Commissioner Sahoo has faced significant backlash from the Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) Association, which has called for more stringent legal measures and enhanced safety for officials performing their duties. In response, OAS members organized cease-work protests across various regions of the state, turning the incident into a major political issue that ignited widespread demonstrations.
