BJP Leader Dismisses Gaurav Gogoi's Assembly Presence Amid Rajya Sabha Nominations

Political Remarks During Rajya Sabha Nominations
Guwahati, June 9: In a pointed political statement during the ongoing Rajya Sabha nomination period, BJP MP Dilip Saikia downplayed the relevance of Gaurav Gogoi's attendance at the Assam Legislative Assembly, labeling it as 'not newsworthy'.
Saikia's remarks came as the BJP and AGP officially put forward Kanad Purkayastha and Birendra Prasad Baishya for the two vacant Rajya Sabha positions from Assam.
"Gaurav Gogoi's presence in the Assembly does not constitute news. While it's commendable that he is here to observe, it doesn't make it significant enough to report," Saikia stated while speaking to reporters.
The BJP has nominated Purkayastha, a seasoned party member from Barak Valley, while the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) has re-nominated Baishya for the second seat.
Both candidates submitted their nominations in the presence of prominent NDA figures, including Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, BJP State President Saikia, and AGP President Atul Bora.
Saikia emphasized Purkayastha's long-standing commitment to the party, describing his nomination as a moment of pride for the NDA.
"He has been an active member of the BJP since 1988, and his father was one of the founding members in Assam. Today marks a joyous occasion for us," he remarked.
Purkayastha expressed his appreciation for the nomination, stating he felt honored by the support and acknowledgment.
"Having dedicated decades to the BJP, I am grateful to the party president, chief minister, and senior leaders for their confidence in me. This recognition uplifts the spirits of party workers throughout Assam. I am committed to fulfilling my duties diligently and advancing the development of Assam, particularly in South Assam and the Barak Valley," he stated.
The BJP characterized Purkayastha as a 'warrior' of the party, highlighting his 37 years of service and strong ties to the region.
"As a member of the Upper House, he will effectively advocate for the interests of Assam and the Barak Valley," a party statement affirmed.
In addition, AGP veteran Birendra Prasad Baishya, who has prior experience in the Rajya Sabha, also submitted his nomination.
The nomination event showcased unity within the NDA, with top leaders coming together to support the two candidates.
