BJP Leader Critiques Rahul Gandhi's Language Advocacy

Nishikant Dubey Challenges Rahul Gandhi's Language Policy

On Sunday, BJP leader Nishikant Dubey targeted Rahul Gandhi, questioning the Congress leader's intentions behind promoting English over local languages. He highlighted the hypocrisy in opposing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 regarding language selection, noting that similar goals were part of the NEP from 1986. Dubey expressed on social media that Gandhi's advisors are leading him astray, referencing the education policy established by Gandhi's father in 1986, which promised to promote Hindi, teach Sanskrit, and translate regional languages into English.

Dubey further stated that the current education policy is still in effect, with changes made by Prime Minister Modi in 2020 to enhance regional languages. He pointed out that countries like Russia, China, France, Germany, Arab nations, Japan, and Korea take pride in their languages, questioning why one should feel pride in English like a slave. He emphasized pride in languages such as Santhali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, Malayalam, Hindi, and Sanskrit.

Dubey's remarks were a response to a previous post by Rahul Gandhi, who advocated for learning English, especially for those from marginalized backgrounds. Gandhi suggested that acquiring language skills could lead to equality and increased job opportunities, which he claimed the BJP-RSS does not support. In his post, Gandhi stated, "This is not a barrier of English; it is a bridge. English is not a shame; it is power. English is not a chain—it is a means to break chains. The BJP-RSS does not want poor children in India to learn English because they do not want you to question, advance, and become equal."
