BJP's Chief Spokesperson and MLA, Rakesh Jamwal, has voiced strong disapproval of remarks made by Himachal Pradesh's Revenue Minister, Jagat Singh Negi, concerning the Ayodhya Ram Temple and the donations made at temples. Jamwal accused Negi's comments of showcasing an anti-Sanatan attitude from the Congress leadership, which he believes offends the sentiments of countless devotees.
According to Jamwal, the Ram Temple transcends being just a religious site; it embodies India's cultural identity, faith, and a long-standing struggle. He stated, “If there are legitimate concerns or facts, the law and appropriate institutions are equipped to handle them. However, casting unfounded doubts on the temple and its priests is profoundly disrespectful to millions of devotees.”
In response to Negi's suggestion that funds should be directed towards hospitals and schools rather than temples, Jamwal acknowledged the importance of supporting education and healthcare but emphasized that it is primarily the government's duty to ensure these services. He remarked, “Citizens pay taxes expecting the government to deliver essential services. If the government falls short, it cannot deflect responsibility onto religious beliefs and temples.”
Jamwal also challenged Negi on how many educational or healthcare institutions he has personally supported, insisting that leaders should lead by example before advising others. He criticized the Congress government for undermining the education system by closing institutions, narrowing the scope of Sardar Patel University, and discontinuing integrated courses, which has compelled students to seek education outside the state. Furthermore, he condemned the government's inadequate healthcare performance, claiming that welfare initiatives from the previous BJP administration have either been halted or weakened, placing additional burdens on families.
Addressing Negi's previous comments, Jamwal denounced his statement about priests transitioning from slippers to airplanes as disrespectful and inappropriate for a minister. He highlighted that numerous saints, priests, and religious figures across the nation are dedicated to social service, moral development, and the preservation of Sanatan culture, and they deserve recognition.
Jamwal has called for Jagat Singh Negi to issue a public apology to the Sanatan community for his remarks. He asserted that the Congress party cannot mask its shortcomings by politicizing religious beliefs, and the citizens of Himachal Pradesh are aware of the government's inconsistencies and will respond appropriately in due time.
