BJP's Nalin Kohli Targets TMC Over Legal Challenges

In a sharp critique of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), BJP leader Nalin Kohli mocked the party's ongoing legal troubles and commended the Election Commission of India (ECI) for ordering re-polling in West Bengal. Kohli's remarks came after the Supreme Court dismissed a petition from TMC regarding the appointment of counting observers, which the ruling party in West Bengal had opposed. Speaking to News Media, Kohli highlighted the 'daily' legal actions initiated by TMC, asserting that the Supreme Court's rejection of their latest petition underscores the legitimacy of the current electoral processes.

Supreme Court's Decision Seen as a Blow to TMC

Kohli emphasized that despite the high volume of petitions, the Supreme Court deserves credit for addressing all of them. He further noted that the court's decision not to accept the petition represents a significant setback for TMC's legal strategy. Discussing the unstable political climate in West Bengal, Kohli praised the high democratic participation while condemning the alleged voter suppression and interference by TMC. He pointed out that the impressive voter turnout of nearly 93% is a testament to the efforts of the Election Commission and security forces. Following reports of booth capturing and interference, the Election Commission mandated re-polling in several locations, a move Kohli deemed necessary and expected.

Allegations of Voter Manipulation by TMC

The BJP leader referenced 'shocking' footage from various booths, claiming that TMC officials were seen tampering with electronic voting machines (EVMs) by removing BJP logos with tape. Kohli reiterated that the Election Commission and security forces deserve recognition for facilitating the elections in West Bengal, which saw a remarkable turnout. Previously, senior advocate and Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal clarified that the Supreme Court not only dismissed TMC's petition regarding the deployment of central government employees for counting but also agreed with the Election Commission's circular.
