The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) commenced a two-day state-level meeting in Mandi on Monday, focusing on organizational strategies and a robust political campaign against the ruling Congress government. The initial discussions aimed at fortifying the party's presence at the grassroots while formulating a comprehensive plan for the upcoming elections and statewide protests.
Taking place at the Atal Auditorium, the gathering includes prominent leaders such as National General Secretary Tarun Chugh, National Vice President Saudan Singh, State In-charge Shrikant Sharma, Co-Incharge Sanjay Tandon, former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, and former Union Minister Anurag Thakur, along with various MPs, MLAs, and state executive members. The office bearers' meeting is scheduled for April 6, followed by a state executive meeting on April 7, where significant resolutions and an action plan are anticipated to be established.
The primary focus of the agenda is to enhance the organization down to the booth level, expedite training initiatives, promote the SIR drive at the assembly segment level, and prepare for upcoming Panchayati Raj and urban local body elections. Discussions also include expanding party cells at the mandal level and strategies for mobilization.
In conjunction with these meetings, the BJP celebrated its Foundation Day across the state with various booth-level activities. During one such event in Mandi, National Vice President Saudan Singh emphasized that the BJP is more than just a political entity; it is an ideological movement dedicated to nation-building. He noted that since its establishment in 1980, the party has evolved into the largest political organization globally, thanks to the commitment of its members.
Focusing on the principle of Antyodaya, he reiterated the party's dedication to ensuring development reaches the most marginalized individuals. He highlighted transformative initiatives under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, such as Digital India, Ujjwala Yojana, Ayushman Bharat, Jal Jeevan Mission, and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, which have significantly improved the lives of many. He encouraged party workers to disseminate the party's message to every village and booth.
On the other hand, State BJP President Dr. Rajeev Bindal criticized the Congress government, claiming that under Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Himachal Pradesh has experienced 'distress, disorder, and misgovernance' over the last three years. He stated that the office bearers' meeting unanimously agreed that the government has failed across all sectors, leaving the populace disillusioned.
Bindal asserted that unemployed youth are facing job shortages, government recruitment has come to a halt, and employees and pensioners are experiencing delays in their payments. He also condemned the Congress for its promise of ₹1,500 per month to women, labeling it a 'betrayal' that has incited widespread discontent.
He further accused the government of imposing increased taxes on the public, including a proposed cess on diesel, higher registration fees, elevated HRTC fares, and rising prices at ration depots. 'This government prioritizes taxation over relief,' he remarked.
Accusing the administration of fostering a 'mafia raj,' Bindal claimed that mining, forest, and land mafias operate freely with political backing. 'This has become a government of mafias, not of the people,' he stated.
The BJP has resolved to initiate a statewide agitation against what it describes as a 'corrupt and anti-people' government. Party members will mobilize from the booth level to the state level to unveil government policies and garner public support.
The first day of discussions clearly indicates that the BJP is working to solidify its grassroots structure while gearing up for a heightened political confrontation with the Congress as the elections approach.
