BJP Launches Campaign for 2026 Assembly Elections in Assam
BJP's Statewide Campaign Kickoff
Guwahati, Jan 5: The Assam chapter of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has officially commenced its campaign for the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections with a statewide wall-painting initiative, marking the party's initial significant outreach effort ahead of the polls.
The campaign was inaugurated in Guwahati, attended by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia at Khanapara Kendriya Vidyalaya, where party leaders collectively launched the initiative.
Sarma emphasized that this drive serves as an essential grassroots mobilization strategy, stating that the campaign is being executed simultaneously throughout the state.
He noted that party members would only paint walls after securing permission from property owners, highlighting the importance of conducting the activity with proper consent.
“Once permission is granted, workers will paint the lotus symbol, representing the BJP. This will act as both a means of public engagement and a campaign tool,” Sarma explained, mentioning that the murals would depict the party's accomplishments over the last five to ten years.
Saikia added that the artwork would illustrate the BJP's achievements and the effectiveness of the 'double-engine government', framing the campaign as a visual representation of governance and progress.
He also announced that a similar campaign would be initiated in Dibrugarh by Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
Both leaders shared the slogans that will be prominently featured in the campaign.
Sarma indicated that the BJP would focus on themes of security and development, with slogans like ‘Axomor Suraksha, BJP Pratigya’ and ‘Viksit Assam, Jai Aai Assam’.
Saikia mentioned that the party's agenda would prioritize development while preserving Assam's culture, traditions, and heritage, aiming to create a secure and self-sufficient state.
Regarding alliance politics, Sarma reaffirmed the BJP's strong ties with its NDA partners, including the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and other allies in Bodoland.
He also stated that the party is well-prepared for the next phase of the electoral process. “If we were to announce candidates today for 50 constituencies, we could do so,” Sarma asserted.
Detailing the BJP's candidate selection process, Sarma clarified that tickets are not distributed based on proposals or financial incentives.
“The selection process begins at the polling booth, progresses to the mandal, then district, state, and finally to Delhi. Proposals are submitted by party workers, and there are no fees involved,” he explained, noting that each party has its own system.
During the event, the Chief Minister launched a strong critique against the Congress party, accusing them of soliciting money in exchange for tickets.
He alleged that substantial amounts were being collected in various constituencies and claimed that the Congress failed to support communities after receiving funds.
“Amounts ranging from Rs 3 crore to Rs 5 crore are being gathered, and this will be disclosed soon. Congress leaders are even saving money for personal events like weddings,” Sarma alleged.
As the wall-painting initiative unfolds across Assam, Sarma reiterated that the BJP's focus remains on public service and garnering public support, setting the stage for an election campaign that aims to reach directly into neighborhoods and streets throughout the state.
