BJP Kicks Off 'Jana Aashirwad Yatra' in Assam Ahead of 2026 Elections
BJP Launches Statewide Campaign
Guwahati, Feb 28: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) commenced its 'Jana Aashirwad Yatra' from Dhekiajuli on Saturday, marking the official start of its campaign for the upcoming 2026 Assam Assembly elections, while seeking the public's blessings for a third consecutive term.
During the event, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma addressed party members and supporters, emphasizing that this yatra signifies the BJP's commitment to directly connect with voters throughout the state.
Sarma reminded the audience of their past support, stating, “You elected Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014, established the BJP-led government under Sarbananda Sonowal in 2016, and again in 2021, you helped us secure power. We have consistently aimed to serve the people of Assam during these years.”
He highlighted the party's decade of governance, pointing to significant changes and development in Assam.
“The current atmosphere and development in Assam reflect our dedicated service over the past ten years. While we acknowledge that we may have made mistakes and not met every expectation, our sincere efforts have led to a safer and more developed Assam,” he stated.
The Chief Minister called on the public for their continued support to maintain governance continuity.
“Assist us in forming the government once more. We aim to advance Assam's development and ensure it becomes one of the leading states in the nation. Our focus will remain on the welfare of the poor and middle class, including farmers and laborers,” Sarma added.
BJP State President Dilip Saikia also spoke at the event, asserting that the Chief Minister embodies the hopes of the entire state.
“To those questioning ‘Who is Himanta Biswa Sarma,’ we clarify that he is not merely a BJP leader but the leader of Assam’s 3.50 crore residents. We are engaging with the public to earn their blessings,” Saikia remarked.
The party announced that the yatra will traverse various districts in Assam over the coming weeks, focusing on public engagement and showcasing the achievements of the BJP governments both at the state and central levels.
On February 26, Saikia had previously declared in Jorhat that the BJP would initiate the 'Jana Aashirwad Yatra' across Assam starting February 28 as part of its Assembly election strategy.
He noted that the yatra's objective is to garner voter support to facilitate the BJP's formation of the government for a third consecutive term, continuing what he termed a journey of peace, progress, and development.
