BJP in Assam Gears Up for 2026 Assembly Elections with Strategic Meetings and High-Profile Visits
Preparations Intensify for Upcoming Elections
Guwahati, Dec 18: The Assam chapter of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is ramping up its efforts in anticipation of the 2026 Assembly elections, with a busy agenda of organizational events and notable visits planned for the remainder of December.
On Thursday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the party will conduct two significant meetings on December 26 and 27 as part of its electoral strategy. He indicated that several senior national leaders are expected to participate in these gatherings.
“We anticipate the presence of BJP national working president Nitin Nabin, National General Secretary B L Santosh, and state Assembly election coordinators Vajayan Panna and Harish Trivedi during these meetings. Starting tomorrow, we will have continuous programs throughout December,” Sarma stated.
Sarma noted that the series of visits is a reflection of the completion of numerous development initiatives undertaken during the government's five-year tenure.
“It takes time for governments to turn plans into action. Many projects are nearing completion, and dignitaries will be visiting to inaugurate them one after another,” he explained.
Prior to the upcoming meetings, Sarma, along with Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia and party members, engaged in discussions to assess organizational readiness.
Expressing trust in the party's grassroots workers, the Chief Minister asserted that the forthcoming events would proceed seamlessly with the backing of party members statewide.
The BJP's heightened political engagement coincides with a series of prominent visits from central leaders. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Assam on December 20 and 21, followed closely by Union Home Minister Amit Shah's visit on December 29.
Sarma mentioned that Shah will inaugurate the Police Commissioner’s office in Guwahati, launch the city’s CCTV surveillance system, and unveil the Jyoti Bishnu Sanskritik Auditorium, touted as the largest cultural venue in eastern India.
On the same day, the Home Minister will also head to Nagaon to inaugurate the Batadrava project.
With a lineup of party events, organizational meetings, and visits from both the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister, the Assam BJP is signaling a proactive and coordinated approach as it prepares for the 2026 Assembly elections.
