BJP Functionary Arrested for Allegedly Involving Daughter in Sexual Assault Case

Arrest of BJP Functionary in Haridwar

A member of the BJP in Haridwar, who previously held significant roles within the party's district unit, was taken into custody on Wednesday. She is accused of orchestrating the rape of her 13-year-old daughter by her boyfriend and an accomplice. The boyfriend, aged 33, has also been arrested and is currently detained, while the accomplice, believed to be in his 30s, remains at large. Reports indicate that the woman had been separated from her husband due to a dispute a few months earlier and allegedly forced her daughter to consume alcohol to facilitate the assaults.

According to the Station House Officer (SHO) of the relevant police station, the first incident of gang rape was reported in January, with the mother present in the vehicle during the assault. This horrific pattern continued until March, during which the trio took the victim and her mother to Agra and Vrindavan. The girl endured approximately eight instances of gang rape, consistently accompanied by her mother during these attacks.

The police revealed that the minor was also assaulted in a hotel in Haridwar, registered under her mother's or her boyfriend's name. They allegedly threatened the girl's father with death if she disclosed any details about the abuse.

After enduring months of repeated assaults, the young girl finally confided in her father about the violence she had suffered. He promptly filed a complaint on Tuesday, leading to an initial inquiry and the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) on Wednesday. The FIR includes charges under various sections related to gang rape, criminal intimidation, and applicable provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against the three suspects.

Haridwar Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Pramendra Dobal confirmed to a local media outlet that a medical examination of the girl validated the claims of sexual assault, resulting in the arrests of both the mother and her boyfriend. The mother allegedly coerced her daughter into engaging in sexual acts with the men by misleading her into believing it was a normal part of life.

The girl's statement has been documented before a magistrate, and police are actively pursuing the third suspect. To safeguard the victim's identity, it has not been disclosed in accordance with Supreme Court guidelines regarding sexual assault cases.
