Election Results Overview


Itanagar, Dec 20: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) achieved a significant victory in the Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) elections, capturing 14 out of 20 available seats, as the results were announced on Saturday.


In Pasighat, the Peoples’ Party of Arunachal (PPA) claimed victory in the Pasighat Municipal Council (PMC) elections, winning five of the eight wards, according to Taru Talo, secretary of the State Election Commission (SEC).


The opposition party, Indian National Congress (INC), did not secure any seats in either the Itanagar or Pasighat municipal elections.


Other parties included the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), which won three seats, and the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), which secured two seats, while one seat was won by an Independent candidate.


Vote counting commenced at 8 am on Saturday across 45 counting centers in 27 districts, Talo reported.


The elections for 16 wards in the IMC and eight wards in the PMC took place on December 15, with four BJP candidates in the Itanagar civic body being elected unopposed.


Women candidates made a notable impact in the elections, winning 10 out of 20 seats in the Itanagar Municipal Corporation, while four women were elected in the eight-member Pasighat Municipal Council.


In the PMC elections, besides the PPA's five seats, the BJP won two wards, and an Independent candidate took one seat. Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were utilized in both elections.


Talo mentioned that the simultaneous panchayat and civic body elections conducted on December 15 were carried out smoothly across the state, with sufficient security and administrative measures in place.


Voter turnout for the panchayat elections reached approximately 75% throughout Arunachal Pradesh.


In urban local body elections, voter participation was recorded at 51.39% in the Itanagar Municipal Corporation and 60.95% in the Pasighat Municipal Council.


Currently, the counting of votes for the panchayat bodies, which includes 186 Zilla Parishad Member (ZPM) seats and 1,947 Gram Panchayat Member (GPM) seats, is ongoing using ballot papers, and results may take longer to be announced, as noted by the SEC secretary.
