The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expressed strong disapproval of the Himachal Pradesh budget for the fiscal year 2026–27, which was unveiled by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. The party labeled the budget as 'disappointing' and a 'hindrance to the state's advancement.'

BJP spokesperson Sanjay Sharma criticized the budget, describing it as a 'tangled web of words and numbers' that indicates an economic crisis due to salary and allowance reductions. He accused the government of masking its shortcomings with deceptive assertions.

Key Concerns Raised by BJP:

  • Shifting Blame: The BJP claimed that the Chief Minister is deflecting accountability onto the central government regarding the cessation of the Revenue Deficit Grant (RDG), rather than outlining a clear development strategy. The party pointed out that the Centre has already provided unprecedented support to Himachal through tax devolution.

  • Budget Reductions: The decrease in the budget from ₹58,514 crore last year to ₹54,928 crore this year was criticized as a direct assault on development, undermining the trust of youth, farmers, and horticulturists.

  • Unmet Commitments: The BJP noted that the government has not fulfilled its '10 guarantees' made prior to taking office. New initiatives like Mukhyamantri Apna Sukhi Parivar were dismissed as mere distractions, while promises such as the ₹1,500 monthly stipend for women remain unaddressed.

  • Inflation Concerns: The party cautioned that the government is likely to raise taxes, exacerbating the inflation burden on everyday citizens, while attributing this to global conditions and conflicts.

The spokesperson asserted that the residents of Himachal will reject this 'aimless budget.' The BJP pledged to reveal the government's 'anti-people policies and false promises' both within the Assembly and in public demonstrations. The party also called for a white paper detailing the state's debt and the actual development progress over the last three years.
