Concerns Raised Over Pension Issues in Himachal Pradesh

Advocate Viswa Chakshu, who serves as the BJP’s state media co-incharge, has brought attention to the difficulties faced by Bhagwan Das Sharma, a 94-year-old resident of Suunhi in the Bargra police station area of Kangra district. Sharma has reportedly been without his pension for several months, forcing him to rely on others for essential items such as medicines and food.

Chakshu claimed that Sharma's situation is not unique but rather indicative of a widespread issue affecting senior citizens across various districts, including Kangra, Mandi, Una, Sirmaur, Chamba, and Hamirpur. He criticized the government for the prolonged delays in pension payments, stating, “Files are accumulating in offices, and officials are citing technical problems as excuses, while helpless pensioners are left to navigate between panchayats and welfare offices as the government remains inactive.”

He further accused the Congress-led government of failing to implement its social security initiatives effectively, asserting that these programs exist only on paper and in advertisements, lacking any real oversight or accountability.

Chakshu issued a strong warning, stating that if the pending pension issues are not addressed promptly and those responsible are not held accountable, the BJP will initiate a significant protest, extending from the streets to the Assembly, against what he described as the government’s neglect of the elderly.

“The dignity and livelihood of our senior citizens must not be compromised. The Sukhu government will face political repercussions for this insensitivity,” he concluded.
