BJP's Response to ED Actions

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expressed strong criticism regarding the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) recent raid on the Kolkata office of the Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC), associated with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Speaking to the media in New Delhi, senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad questioned the Chief Minister's decision to visit the I-PAC office, asserting that it is neither a TMC office nor the residence of any party leader.

Allegations of Police Misconduct

Prasad further alleged that the convoy of Suvendu Adhikari, the leader of the opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, was attacked in the presence of police. He lamented that despite attempts to file a First Information Report (FIR), no case has been registered, calling the incident unfortunate.

Concerns Over Law Enforcement

The BJP leader claimed that the entire police system in West Bengal has become a tool for the Chief Minister, accusing the state’s law enforcement of being misused for unconstitutional and undemocratic activities.

Supreme Court Hearing on ED's Petition

The Supreme Court is currently hearing a petition from the Enforcement Directorate, which alleges that the West Bengal government, including Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, interfered with the ED's investigation and search operations at the I-PAC office and the residence of its director, Pratik Jain. Prior to the hearing, the ED has called for the suspension of West Bengal's Director General of Police, Rajeev Kumar, claiming he and other senior officials obstructed the search at Jain's residence. Meanwhile, the West Bengal government has filed an objection, requesting that no orders be passed regarding the agency's raid on the political consultancy office without a hearing.
