BJP Criticizes Congress for Failing Women's Reservation Bill

In a recent press conference, BJP leaders, led by Smriti Irani, harshly criticized the Congress party for its failure to pass the Women's Reservation Bill. They accused Congress of celebrating the denial of women's political rights and disregarding their aspirations. The bill, which aimed to provide 33% reservation for women in assemblies, fell short of the required majority, leading to a heated exchange between the parties. Irani highlighted the long-standing struggle of women in politics and questioned Congress's claims of supporting women's rights over the past 98 years. This incident has sparked a broader discussion about the representation of women in Indian politics.

BJP's Strong Accusations Against Congress

On Saturday, senior leaders from the BJP launched a fierce critique of the Congress party, accusing it of betraying women and celebrating the failure of a constitutional amendment bill aimed at implementing 33% reservation for women in assemblies and increasing the number of Lok Sabha seats. During a press conference, former Union Minister Smriti Irani claimed that Congress and its allies were rejoicing over the denial of this long-standing demand from various women leaders across parties.

Irani alleged that the Congress party was celebrating with smiles and applause, disregarding the political aspirations of ordinary women. She pointed out that the Congress and its allied parties were pleased that women, who have fought for years in politics and sought only 33% reservation in Parliament, were denied their rights. The constitutional amendment bill, which aimed to implement women's reservation and increase Lok Sabha seats, failed to secure the required two-thirds majority in the house on Friday.

In the voting, 298 members supported the bill, while 230 opposed it. Out of 528 members who cast their votes, a total of 352 votes were needed for the bill to pass. Irani further claimed that Congress had recently taken credit for nurturing the vision of granting political rights to women for nearly 98 years. However, she questioned the outcome of this claim, stating that the events in Parliament revealed the party's true intentions. She remarked that during the press conference, it appeared as if the party had done a favor to the women of the country over the past 98 years, but what had happened to that intention during this time? The women of this country witnessed the reality in Parliament on Friday.

Irani characterized the opposition's stance as reflective of a feudal mindset, accusing them of viewing constitutional rights as political leverage rather than entitlements. She referenced a Congress press conference, asserting that they violated all norms and decorum to deprive women of their rightful representation. This attitude exemplifies a feudal mentality, where granting citizens constitutional rights is seen as a charity, and those who ensure such rights are regarded as saviors.
