BJP's Promising Outlook for Assam Elections

Pradyut Bordoloi, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from the Dispur assembly constituency, expressed strong confidence in the party's prospects on Monday. He asserted that a BJP-led government will be established in Assam before the counting of votes for the 2026 assembly elections. Speaking to a news outlet, Bordoloi mentioned that the counting process is set to commence soon. There is a palpable sentiment across Assam indicating that the public has voted overwhelmingly in favor of the BJP and the NDA coalition. He firmly believes that by this evening, the people of Assam will deliver a clear mandate for the BJP to return to power, with Himanta Biswa Sarma continuing as Chief Minister.


 


Meanwhile, prior to the counting, agents from various political parties have arrived at the strong rooms located in the Maniram Dewan Trade Centre in Guwahati, which houses five assembly constituencies in the Kamrup (Metro) district. The counting for all 126 assembly constituencies is scheduled to begin at 8 AM. This process will take place under strict security measures and the supervision of election officials. The counting of postal ballots commenced at 8:00 AM, while the counting of votes cast via EVMs will start at 8:30 AM at 14 designated centers.


 


The Election Commission has designated 52 counting centers across 35 districts, ranging from prestigious universities to local school halls, which will serve as primary locations for the counting process. These include Bodoland University (Kokrajhar), Bhattadev University (Bajali), Nalbari College, and Karimganj College. Several higher secondary (HS) and multi-purpose (MP) schools are also being utilized, such as the Government Boys HS and MP School in Kokrajhar and Dawson HS and MP School in Nagaon. In districts like Goalpara, Majuli, and Dima Hasao, the counting will take place at the district commissioner’s office. Additionally, locations such as the Maniram Dewan Trade Centre in Guwahati (Kamrup Metro) and the inter-state truck terminal in Cachar are also being used for counting.
