BJP Strengthens Leadership for Upcoming Elections
New Delhi, Dec 15: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has officially designated Baijayant Panda, a prominent leader and National Vice President, as the election in-charge for the Assam Assembly elections scheduled for 2026.
Additionally, Sunil Kumar Sharma, the MLA and Leader of the Opposition in Jammu and Kashmir, along with Darshana Ben Jardosh, a former Union Minister, have been appointed as co-in-charges for the elections.
As per a statement from Arun Singh, the National General Secretary of the BJP, these appointments were made by the party's National President, JP Nadda, and are effective immediately.
The strategic appointments aim to bolster the party's organizational structure in Assam as it gears up for the upcoming elections.
Sources within the party indicate that this decision underscores the BJP leadership's commitment to proactive planning, grassroots mobilization, and enhanced collaboration between central and state units to maintain their governance in Assam.
In response to the announcement, Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his support on social media, stating, “We are confident that under Panda ji’s guidance, the NDA will secure a historic third consecutive mandate to serve the people of Assam.”
Sarma also extended a warm welcome to Darshana Ben Jardosh and Sunil Kumar Sharma as co-in-charges for the elections.
Over the past decade, Assam has been pivotal for the BJP's political growth in the Northeast, with the party successfully forming the government for two consecutive terms.
As the state approaches the 2026 Assembly elections, the BJP is anticipated to emphasize its governance achievements, development projects, and welfare initiatives while addressing the opposition's critiques.
The newly appointed election in-charge team will collaborate closely with the Assam BJP leadership, including the state president, organizational general secretary, and other officials, to manage campaign strategies, candidate selection, and overall election operations.
Political analysts interpret the early establishment of the election in-charge and co-in-charges as a sign that the BJP is determined to meticulously prepare for the 2026 Assembly elections, ensuring a robust organizational framework is in place.
