BJP and Congress Demand Resignation of Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann Amid Controversy
Political Turmoil in Punjab
Leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress are calling for the resignation of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. This demand arises from a controversy surrounding a video that allegedly disrespects Sikh Gurus. Following the arrest of two individuals accused of fabricating a report, BJP's National General Secretary Tarun Chugh criticized Mann on Wednesday, asserting that the viral video was indeed fake. Chugh accused Mann of being intoxicated by power.
Accusations and Responses
Chugh stated that when summoned by the Sri Akal Takht Sahib regarding the offensive video, Mann denied its authenticity, claiming it was a product of artificial intelligence. He further labeled Mann as intoxicated by power, challenging the authority of Akal Takht Sahib and presenting a false report. Chugh declared that Mann has no moral right to continue as the Chief Minister of Punjab, labeling him a traitor.
Congress Joins the Call for Resignation
Aam Aadmi Party's Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Wadding also demanded Mann's resignation and a public apology. He emphasized that the Congress party believes Mann has acted against the interests of the Gurus and should seek forgiveness from the people of Punjab. The confirmation of the Akal Takht's decision, which labeled him a 'Guru Drohi' (one who acts against the Guru), was supported by reports that his officials held a meeting in Gurugram to prepare a report aligned with their agenda.
Police Action in Viral Video Case
In connection with the viral video incident, Gurugram police have arrested two individuals for allegedly manipulating forensic reports. This information was provided by Gurugram's Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime), Naveen Sharma. According to police officials, the accused received 10 lakh rupees from Punjab officials to alter the video.
