BJP Aims to Establish Rule of Law in West Bengal, Claims Chief Minister
BJP's Commitment to Law and Order
On Monday, West Bengal's Chief Minister, Shubhendu Adhikari, asserted in the assembly that the BJP government is determined to enforce the rule of law in the state. He accused Humayun Kabir, a legislator from the Ajeya Party, of making inflammatory remarks aimed at polarizing voters during the by-election for the Rezinagar assembly seat.
Adhikari mentioned that two criminal cases have been filed against Kabir due to his alleged offensive comments made during two recent public meetings in Murshidabad district, targeting the Chief Minister and the government machinery. He emphasized that the police will take action in accordance with the law.
Humayun Kabir had previously won both the Naoda and Rezinagar assembly seats in the 2026 elections. Following this, he took the oath as the MLA for Naoda, necessitating a by-election for Rezinagar.
The Chief Minister pointed out that Kabir's provocative statements seem to be aimed at polarizing voters, considering the possibility of his son contesting in the Rezinagar by-election after winning two seats and vacating one.
Legal Actions Against Inflammatory Statements
Adhikari stated that those who invited Humayun Kabir to speak at these public gatherings would face initial action, followed by legal steps against the legislator himself. He reiterated, "The government will establish the rule of law," asserting that the BJP administration is not as weak as the previous Mamata Banerjee government.
