BJP Aims for Major Upset in West Bengal Elections 2026
BJP's Ambitious Plans for West Bengal
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is gearing up to make a significant political shift in West Bengal by aiming to unseat the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the upcoming 2026 elections. Samik Bhattacharya, the BJP's state president, expressed confidence that the party's objective extends beyond merely winning; they are assured of a decisive victory. Meanwhile, the TMC is hopeful of securing a fourth consecutive term, while the BJP seeks to create history by forming its first government in the state. Outside a counting center in Kolkata, Bhattacharya stated that the electorate has already rejected the TMC government, and the results will soon confirm this with a substantial majority. He emphasized that the public has turned against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in this electoral battle.
On the other hand, Mamata Banerjee, the TMC leader and Chief Minister of West Bengal, has urged her party workers and polling agents to remain vigilant and prevent any electoral fraud by the BJP on counting day. On Sunday night, she raised concerns about power outages and suspicious activities near the strongroom ahead of the counting process.
In a post on social media, Banerjee claimed to have received reports of phased load-sharing and disruptions in CCTV surveillance from several districts, including Hooghly, Nadia, Bardhaman, and parts of Kolkata. Suvendu Adhikari, the BJP candidate from Nandigram and Bhabanipur, performed rituals at the Lakshmi Narayan Temple in Bhabanipur before the counting began. He remarked that he prayed at the temple, believing that divine support is with them, and asserted that a government protecting the interests of Sanatan Dharma is on the horizon. Responding to TMC National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee's comments regarding re-polling in the Falta assembly constituency, Adhikari stated that such remarks reflect their arrogance and will yield no benefits, emphasizing that ultimately, democracy prevails in the country. He drew parallels with Uttar Pradesh, where the BJP's governance ended a long-standing lawlessness, and recalled similar circumstances in Bihar two decades ago, which the public also overcame.
