BJD Voices Concerns Over Women's Safety

Koraput: On Saturday, members of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) organized a demonstration outside the South Western range DIG office, expressing their outrage over the increasing violence against women and holding the BJP-led state government accountable for inadequate safety measures.

Pradeep Majhi, a prominent BJD leader and spokesperson, highlighted alarming incidents, such as the rape of a 15-year-old girl in Malkangiri and a severe assault on a nursing student from Nabarangpur.

The nursing student, who hails from Raighar block, was reportedly attacked in Jeypore Town.

Although an FIR was lodged and the suspect was initially apprehended, he was subsequently released and allegedly returned to harass the victim, who later attempted suicide.

Her condition is currently reported as critical by hospital officials.

Majhi criticized the police for their inefficiency, noting that the student had to file two FIRs across different jurisdictions.

He condemned the so-called 'double-engine government' for failing to deliver justice and pledged to continue protests until women in Odisha feel secure.
