Call for Peaceful Negotiations

BJD MP Sasmit Patra emphasized the necessity for the United States, Israel, and Iran to return to the negotiation table regarding the escalating conflicts in West Asia. He cautioned that a prolonged conflict could exacerbate the energy crisis, destabilize global economies, and heighten geopolitical tensions.


In an interview, Patra remarked, "The situation in West Asia is becoming increasingly dire... I urge the three nations involved—America, Israel, and Iran—to seek a middle ground and return to discussions to prevent further bloodshed in this conflict."

He further stated that if the conflict continues, it will have a significant impact on the energy crisis, destroying the value created by economies post-COVID-19. The geopolitical ramifications could be severely negative, leading to a polarized world. It is crucial that we seek paths of cooperation, coordination, and dialogue instead of conflict while there is still time.


During the ongoing budget session, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address the Lok Sabha at 2 PM today, where he will highlight key aspects of the conflict in West Asia and outline India's stance on the matter.

The Cabinet Secretary in the Prime Minister's Office provided a comprehensive presentation on the global situation and the mitigation measures taken and planned by all relevant ministries/departments of the Indian government concerning the conflict. Discussions included the expected impact on agriculture, fertilizers, food security, petroleum, electricity, small and medium enterprises, exporters, shipping, trade, finance, supply chains, and all affected sectors. The overall economic situation of the country and further measures to be taken were also deliberated. The ongoing conflict in West Asia is projected to have significant short, medium, and long-term effects on the global economy, and assessments of its impact on India were discussed along with both immediate and long-term countermeasures.
