BJD Launches Statewide Campaign to Address Violence Against Women and Students in Odisha
BJD's Response to Rising Violence
Bhubaneswar: In response to the increasing incidents of violence against women and students in Odisha, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has initiated a series of protests against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The party's student and youth factions announced a statewide campaign set to commence on August 1.
During a press briefing, BJD officials expressed their frustration regarding the lack of progress in the Balasore case, despite the establishment of several inquiry committees.
They also highlighted similar cases in Balanga (Puri), Tumudibandha (Kandhamal), Malkangiri, and other areas, criticizing the state government for failing to deliver justice to the affected individuals.
From August 1 to 8, students from various colleges will submit memorandums to the Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) at local police stations and District Superintendents of Police offices.
These memorandums will address the safety concerns of students on and off campus, demanding urgent actions to protect women and girls in the state.
The campaign will escalate from August 9 to 14, coinciding with Kranti Divas, when thousands of students will send postcards to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who oversees the Home Department, urging justice for violence victims and prompt government intervention.
"The government's silence and inaction are intolerable. Students will voice their demands democratically until justice is served," stated BJD MLA Byomakesh Ray.
BJD leaders further claimed that the law and order situation in Odisha has deteriorated under the BJP administration.
During the press conference, BJD MLA Devi Ranjan Tripathy warned that protests would intensify if the government does not ensure a safe environment for girls in educational institutions across Odisha.
