Gates' Testimony Unveils Epstein's Alleged Manipulations

On Tuesday, authorities made public a transcript from a congressional hearing where Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft, addressed claims regarding Jeffrey Epstein's attempts to exploit personal relationships for leverage. Gates testified before the House Oversight Committee on June 10, where he was questioned about what lawmakers characterized as an "attempt to blackmail" him by Epstein. During this session, Gates acknowledged that Epstein was aware of his connections with two Russian women: bridge player Mila Antonova and nuclear scientist Karima Nigmatulina.

The testimony, released on Tuesday, provides further insight into the scrutinized ties between Gates and Epstein, a convicted sex offender who passed away in a New York jail in 2019 while awaiting trial for sex trafficking. Central to the discussion is a draft email from July 18, 2013, disclosed earlier this year by the US Department of Justice, which Epstein allegedly composed on behalf of Boris Nikolic, a former science advisor to Gates preparing to leave his role.

In the draft, Epstein alluded to Gates's personal behavior, stating: "Though it was kindly suggested that I make a transition to a new position after my 6 years of service and that Bill would, in his words, give me a generous package, I feel it would be dishonest to myself and my future from helping Bill to get drugs in order to deal with consequences of sex with Russian girls, to facilitating his illicit trysts with married women, to being asked to provide Adderall for bridge tournaments." The draft continued with Epstein expressing a desire to admit a moral failure and seek forgiveness.

During his testimony, Gates confirmed that the references to the two Russian women were indeed based on actual relationships. He described the draft email as Epstein's attempt to gain "leverage," suggesting it was akin to blackmail. Gates remarked, "[W]ho knows if he ever sent it to Dr. Nikolic, but it looks like he's musing on using a mixture of facts and falsities as an effort, almost like a blackmail, to advance some goal in improving Dr. Nikolic's negotiating position as part of his exit from my employ."

Gates also mentioned Epstein's later attempts to seek reimbursement for expenses he claimed to have incurred on behalf of Antonova, which Gates interpreted as either blackmail or an effort to rekindle their relationship. However, he downplayed the notion that he had been blackmailed, stating, "He never blackmailed me, but looking at these emails, it raises a serious probability that he contemplated blackmailing me." This testimony is part of a wider congressional investigation into Epstein's connections with wealthy and influential individuals. The House Oversight Committee has not yet indicated if further hearings or interviews regarding Epstein's associates will take place.
