Bihar's Initiative for Reducing Fuel Consumption

The impact of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call to reduce petrol and diesel consumption and promote environmental protection is becoming evident in Bihar's political landscape. On Friday, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary observed Vehicle Ban Day, walking the 50-meter distance from his residence to the secretariat. Additionally, Deepak Prakash, the son of Bihar's minister Upendra Kushwaha, also chose to walk to the secretariat from his official residence, covering nearly one kilometer.

Following the Chief Minister's initiative, secretariat officials and staff refrained from using vehicles today. Many employees opted for bicycles and public transport to reach their offices. Compared to regular days, there was a noticeable decrease in the number of government vehicles around the secretariat, with several officials seen arriving on foot or in their personal vehicles. On Thursday, while traveling from Patna to Darbhanga, the Chief Minister arrived at the airport with a convoy of three vehicles, a significant reduction from the previous 19 vehicles in his entourage. During the Darbhanga event, he encouraged the public to utilize public transport.

There is a call for implementing work-from-home arrangements in both private and government offices. Ministers and public representatives are urged to minimize their vehicle usage. A weekly Vehicle Ban Day is also being proposed. In line with the Prime Minister's message on fuel conservation, Dr. Pramod Kumar, Bihar's Minister of Mining, Geology, and Art-Culture, traveled to Gaya by train on Thursday. Meanwhile, during Union Minister Nityanand Rai's visit to Bihar, a vehicle from both the CRPF and Bihar Police will be assigned for his security. Nityanand's office has communicated this to the Bihar government, and he has also requested his supporters to limit the number of vehicles during the welcome event.
