Bihar's Electoral Roll Update: 98.2% of Electors Submit Documents Ahead of Deadline
Bihar's Special Intensive Revision Progress
New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced that 98.2% of electors in Bihar have submitted their documentation, with just eight days left for filing any objections or claims in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll. As of Sunday, only ten complaints have been lodged by the twelve recognized political parties.
According to a press release from the ECI, the enumeration phase for the SIR, which took place from June 24 to July 25, has concluded successfully, and the draft Electoral Rolls were published on August 1. The window for submitting claims, objections, and necessary documents is currently open and will close on September 1.
The ECI noted that in the span of 60 days, 98.2% of electors have provided their documents, averaging about 1.64% daily. With eight days remaining until the September 1 deadline, only 1.8% of electors have yet to submit their documentation.
The process of document collection is ongoing, aided by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and volunteers. The ECI anticipates that, similar to the enumeration forms, the document collection will be completed ahead of schedule.
Simultaneously, the verification of documents is being conducted by the designated 243 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and 2,976 Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs).
Out of the 7.24 crore electors listed in the draft rolls, only 0.16% of claims and objections have been received so far. This includes ten from the BLOs of the twelve recognized political parties, none from individuals not registered in the respective Assembly Constituency, and 121,143 from electors within their own constituencies.
Additionally, 328,847 new electors who turned 18 on or after July 1, or will do so by October 1, have submitted their Form 6 and Declaration.
The ECI confirmed that the SIR process in Bihar is proceeding as planned.
The final decisions regarding all claims and objections, along with the verification of eligibility documents, are expected to be completed by the EROs and AEROs by September 25, 2025. Following this, the Final Electoral Rolls will be published on September 30, 2025.
The Commission praised the ongoing efforts of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Bihar, District Election Officers (DEOs) across all 38 districts, 243 EROs, 2,976 AEROs, 90,712 BLOs, and numerous volunteers, as well as the participation of field representatives from all twelve major political parties, including their district heads and approximately 160,000 appointed BLOs.
This claims and objections period allows electors to correct any errors in the draft Electoral Rolls and submit any necessary documents that may have been omitted during the enumeration process.
