Inauguration of the Double-Decker Flyover
On Wednesday, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated Bihar's inaugural double-decker flyover in Patna, a project that cost ₹422 crores. This structure is considered a significant milestone in the city's smart mobility mission, aimed at alleviating traffic congestion and enhancing connectivity in the capital. Built along Ashok Rajpath, this multi-level flyover introduces a three-tier traffic system, marking a first of its kind in Bihar.
Impact on Traffic and Connectivity
Nitish Kumar shared on social media that the double-decker flyover, which connects Kargil Chowk (Gandhi Maidan) to Science College via Patna Medical College and Hospital, is expected to resolve traffic issues on Ashok Rajpath entirely. The new flyover will significantly ease transportation for patients and their families visiting Patna Medical College and Hospital. It is anticipated to transform the urban landscape and commuting experience in Patna.
Details of the Flyover Structure
The lower deck (Tier 1) spans 1.45 kilometers from Patna College to BN College, while the upper deck (Tier 2) extends 2.2 kilometers from Kargil Chowk to Shatabdi Dwar, passing through Patna Science College. The construction of the ground-level service road is nearly complete at 90%, providing additional support for surface traffic. This flyover connects key urban nodes, including the Patna Metro Rail project and JP Ganga Path, and is expected to reduce congestion in high-traffic areas such as PMCH, Science College, and Patna University.
