Transition of Power in Bihar

Bihar is poised to welcome a new Chief Minister next week as Nitish Kumar is scheduled to take his oath in the Rajya Sabha on April 10. He will depart for Delhi today and will be sworn in as a member of the Rajya Sabha on Friday, paving the way for a shift in power within the state. According to sources, Kumar is expected to return to Patna on the same day after his oath-taking ceremony, with a cabinet meeting set for April 13 to discuss his successor.

Resignation and Strategic Meetings

The Chief Minister may submit his resignation the following day, April 14. On that day, meetings involving all coalition partners and the NDA legislative party are anticipated to strategize the next steps. The new Chief Minister of Bihar could be sworn in on April 15, with the ceremony likely to take place at Gandhi Maidan in Patna. Speculation suggests that Kumar's son, Nishant, who joined the JDU last month, might be appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister in the new government.

BJP's Leadership in the Upcoming Government

As preparations for Nitish Kumar's new role unfold, expectations are high for a BJP-led government to emerge in Bihar, given that the party holds the largest number of seats in the state assembly. Several BJP leaders are being considered as potential candidates for the Chief Minister position. Among them is the current Deputy Chief Minister, Samrat Chaudhary, who won his seat by defeating RJD's Arun Kumar by a margin of 45,843 votes.

Potential Candidates for Chief Minister

Home State Minister and Lok Sabha MP from Ujiarpur, Nityanand Rai, is also viewed as a strong contender. Another name in the mix is Vijay Kumar Sinha, who has been serving as Deputy Chief Minister alongside Chaudhary and has represented the Lakhisarai constituency in the Bihar assembly since 2010. Additionally, Sanjeev Chaurasia, who won his seat in Digha by defeating CPI MLA candidate Divya Gautam by 59,079 votes, is being discussed as a potential candidate. Nitish Mishra, who represents Jhajharpur in Madhubani district and won by over 52,000 votes, is also considered a viable option.
