Police Action Against Protesting Candidates

On Wednesday, Bihar police apprehended candidates protesting outside Patna College, demanding the release of the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) exam notification for Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE) 4.0. Footage showed police dragging demonstrators into vans. Speaking to a news outlet, the protesters expressed their outrage over the treatment they received from law enforcement, highlighting the harshness of the police response.

Meanwhile, DSP Rajesh Ranjan from Patna city stated that the demonstration was conducted without prior permission. He noted that the principal of Patna College had issued a circular the day before, informing about ongoing examinations.

To prevent unauthorized gatherings of external students, police were deployed at the college following reports of potential assemblies. Ranjan mentioned that the police were closely monitoring the situation and working to alleviate traffic congestion caused by the protest. Various departments at Patna College were conducting exams that day, and the principal had emphasized the need to maintain order to ensure that examinations proceeded smoothly without disruptions.

Maintaining Order Amidst Protests

The police aimed to uphold law and order, ensuring that external individuals did not congregate on campus, which could lead to disturbances. Ranjan confirmed that individuals from different areas were taken into custody, and there was no indication that the protesters had obtained permission for their demonstration. Reports indicated that the group intended to gather at Patna College, but the principal had clearly stated that due to the ongoing exams, no external students or individuals would be allowed to assemble.

The police continued to monitor the situation to ensure that traffic could flow normally despite the ongoing congestion.

Previous Protests Over BPSC Exam Results

Similar protests occurred last year following the results of the BPSC TRE 3.0 examination, where candidates raised concerns about discrepancies in the announcement of vacancies and results. The BPSC had advertised 87,774 positions for the TRE 3.0 exam, yet only 66,000 results were declared, leaving 21,000 vacancies unresolved. Candidates were particularly alarmed when they noticed that some names appeared on three different lists, including one student listed multiple times.

In March, candidates for the BPSC Teacher Recruitment Examination 3.0 protested in Patna for over 50 days, demanding resolutions to the irregularities in the results, which had raised significant concerns regarding the vacancies and the announcement process.
