Bihar Opposition's Protest Against Voter List Revision Sparks Political Tensions

Political Reactions to Bihar's Voter List Controversy

In Bihar, the opposition's 'Bihar Bandh' rally against the revision of the voter list has drawn sharp responses from the BJP and JD(U). BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad raised concerns about whether the opposition intends to include infiltrators and others in the voter list. He questioned the presence of Rohingyas in the voter rolls, suggesting that the opposition seeks to leverage these illegal voters for political gain. This stance raises significant questions about their motives. Is this a legal battle in the Supreme Court, or an attempt to exert pressure?

Ravi Shankar Prasad further noted that Bihar has 79 million voters, with 40 million having submitted their enumeration forms. Those whose names were on the voter list as of 2003 do not need to submit additional documents. JD(U) leader Neeraj Kumar criticized the opposition for constantly questioning constitutional institutions while carrying copies of the Constitution. He pointed out that their coalition partners had raised objections regarding duplicate names in previous elections, including deceased individuals. If there is a provision for removing names, why are they politicizing this issue?
