Bail Granted to Anant Singh

On Thursday, the Patna High Court granted bail to Anant Singh, a member of the JDU, paving the way for his release after several months. Singh had been incarcerated in Beur Jail due to his alleged involvement in the murder case of Dularchand Yadav during the Bihar Assembly elections last year. Reports suggest that he is expected to be released within the next 48 hours.

Details of the Dularchand Yadav Murder Case

The murder of Dularchand Yadav occurred on October 30, 2025, in Baswan Chak, under the jurisdiction of the Ghoswari police station in Mokama. Yadav, a former leader of the RJD, was campaigning for a candidate from the Jan Suraj Party when he was attacked. Singh was accused of orchestrating the murder and was arrested by the police on the night of November 1. He was subsequently presented in court and sent to Beur Jail in Patna. After spending approximately four and a half months in custody, he has now secured bail from the High Court.

Winning Elections from Jail

Despite being incarcerated, Anant Singh contested the elections for the Mokama Assembly seat and emerged victorious. In the elections held in October, Singh garnered 91,416 votes, defeating RJD's Veena Devi, who received 63,210 votes. His victory margin of 28,206 votes underscores his significant influence in the constituency. Although his role as an MLA has become formal after taking the oath, his active participation in legislative activities will depend on the High Court's decision regarding his bail application. Singh had also attended the Bihar Assembly to cast his vote in the Rajya Sabha elections on March 16, where he expressed confidence about his imminent release from jail. Following Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's decision to enter the Rajya Sabha, Singh announced that he would not contest future elections, stating that his elder son would run for the Mokama seat in the upcoming polls.
