Bihar Government Initiates Comprehensive Cyber Audit to Combat Rising Cyber Crimes

Addressing Cyber Security Challenges

The increasing frequency of cyber crimes has posed significant challenges to the security of government departments and facilities in Bihar. In response, the state government has designated the Economic Offence Unit (EOU) as the primary agency responsible for overseeing cyber security at the state level.

To enhance security measures, a thorough cyber audit will be conducted across all government departments and installations. This initiative aims to ensure that online activities, including government websites and digital services, adhere to established cyber security standards. Any discrepancies identified during the audit will be promptly addressed.

The cyber audit will be executed in collaboration with various organizations, including the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) and the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C). A specialized strategy is currently being developed to facilitate this audit.

Efforts will also focus on maintaining cyber protocols and improving cyber hygiene within government departments to identify vulnerabilities and rectify issues effectively.

The Necessity of Cyber Audits

The rise in cyber crime incidents has been alarming, with numerous attacks targeting government websites and installations. A notable recent incident involved a system failure at AIIMS, Patna, alongside cyber attacks on the Smart City initiative, Dial 112, and other public utility websites, underscoring the urgent need for a comprehensive cyber audit.

According to Nayyar Hasnain Khan, ADG of the EOU, "The cyber audit will encompass all government departments and installations. We are formulating a strategic plan for this audit, as cyber-related crimes have become a significant concern. The nexus of cybercriminal gangs has been revealed, and decisive action will be taken against them."
