Formation of Bihar Youth Commission

On Tuesday, the Bihar Cabinet sanctioned the establishment of the 'Bihar Youth Commission' aimed at fostering self-reliance, skill development, and employment for the state's youth.

This decision was made during a cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, where a total of 43 resolutions were approved.

Chief Minister Kumar shared on social media platform X, expressing his satisfaction with the cabinet's decision to form the commission, which is intended to empower the youth and provide them with training and job opportunities.

The commission is expected to play a crucial role in advising the government on initiatives to enhance the status of youth in society. It will also collaborate with various government departments to improve educational and employment prospects for young people.

Additionally, the commission will ensure that local youth are prioritized for private sector jobs within Bihar and will safeguard the interests of those studying or working outside the state.

Kumar emphasized that the commission will also focus on creating programs to combat alcohol and drug abuse, which contribute to social issues, and will make recommendations to the government regarding these matters. The overarching goal of this initiative is to cultivate a self-reliant, skilled, and employment-ready youth population.

The commission will consist of a chairman, two vice presidents, and seven members, as stated by S Siddharth, Additional Chief Secretary of the Cabinet Secretariat Department, during a post-cabinet briefing. The age limit for the chairman and members will be capped at 45 years.

Siddharth further noted that the commission will evaluate and propose measures related to youth affairs, including suggestions for improving the conditions of young individuals living and working outside the state, as well as addressing the needs of unemployed youth and meritorious students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
