Ishan Kishan visited Patna to meet Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary at his official residence. Choudhary, who recently took over from Nitish Kumar, honored Kishan with a traditional shawl and a memento before presenting him with a cheque of ₹1 crore.

In a post on his official social media account, Choudhary stated, "The member of the Indian cricket team who won the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, the brilliant batsman, the pride of Bihar, Shri @ishankishan51 Ji, was honored by the state government with a cash prize of 1 crore rupees for his crucial contribution in winning the World Cup."

He further wished Kishan success in his cricket career, encouraging him to continue bringing pride to Bihar.

Ishan Kishan's Journey to the T20 World Cup

Kishan earned his place in the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2026 due to his outstanding performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he was the top scorer with 517 runs, including two centuries and two fifties, averaging 57.44 in ten matches while leading Jharkhand to its first title.

Although he represents Jharkhand, Kishan's roots are deeply connected to Patna, adding complexity to his sporting identity.

Public Reaction to the Cash Prize

The Bihar Government's decision to award Ishan Kishan ₹1 crore has ignited discussions on social media, particularly on X (formerly Twitter). Many fans and cricket followers are questioning the rationale behind awarding such a large sum to a player who already earns substantial income from the IPL and endorsements.

Critics argue that the funds could have been better allocated to support grassroots players, enhance stadium facilities, or develop sports infrastructure in Bihar.

Some users labeled the reward as unnecessary, suggesting it was merely a publicity stunt, and raised questions about the government's priorities.

Comments on social media included sentiments like, "Should have given 5 Lakhs to 20 talented struggling players from Bihar to buy kits and avail good coaches," and others pointed out the lack of international stadiums in the state despite having talented players.

While acknowledging Kishan's talent, many believe that the money could have been more effectively utilized to benefit the broader sporting community.
