Bihar Deputy CM Criticizes Opposition Over Voter List Review

Opposition's Resistance to Voter List Review

In Bihar, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha has made significant remarks in response to the opposition's objections regarding the special intensive review of the voter list. He accused the Congress and RJD of fostering a culture of appeasement by allowing illegal Bangladeshi immigrants to settle in Bihar. Sinha emphasized that the Election Commission has not mandated Indian citizens to provide any documents. He pointed out that the 15-20% of individuals who have entered Bihar illegally have tarnished the state's reputation and created chaos. It is unfortunate that the Congress and RJD are supporting them.

Election Commission's Transparency

Sinha asserted that the Election Commission is conducting its work with complete transparency. The Supreme Court has permitted the Election Commission to continue its special intensive review of the voter lists in Bihar. The court expressed its preliminary opinion that, in the interest of justice, the Election Commission should consider including documents such as Aadhaar, ration cards, and voter ID during the ongoing review process.

Supreme Court's Decision Welcomed

Deputy CM Sinha welcomed the Supreme Court's decision, expressing trust in the judiciary. He criticized the opposition for claiming to believe in the Constitution while simultaneously disrespecting constitutional institutions, calling it very unfortunate. Congress MP K.C. Venugopal remarked that this is a relief for democracy, with the next hearing scheduled for July 28. The Supreme Court has suggested that Aadhaar, voter ID, and ration cards should be part of the verification process, and Sinha believes the Election Commission will heed this advice.
