Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary Expands Cabinet with Notable Appointments
Cabinet Expansion in Bihar
On Thursday, Bihar's Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary announced a significant expansion of his cabinet, which notably included the appointment of Nishant Kumar, the son of former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, as a minister. This new cabinet now features the sons of three former chief ministers: Nishant Kumar, Nitish Mishra (son of Jagannath Mishra), and Santosh Kumar Suman (son of Jitan Ram Manjhi), all of whom took their oaths on the same day. The NDA organized a grand oath-taking ceremony at Gandhi Maidan in Patna, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. As Modi's convoy made its way to the venue, crowds lined the streets, showering flower petals on his vehicle.
Prominent Figures in Attendance
The ceremony was graced by several dignitaries, including former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, JP Nadda, Jitan Ram Manjhi, and Chirag Paswan, along with BJP National President Nitin Nabin and RLJP leader Upendra Kushwaha. Nishant Kumar, an engineering graduate who had distanced himself from active politics for a long time, accepted the ministerial position after persistent requests from JDU leadership. Initially, he had declined the offer, expressing a desire to establish his credentials as a dedicated party worker before taking on any formal role.
Current Political Landscape
In the 243-member assembly, the BJP holds the largest share with 89 legislators and has appointed 15 ministers, who were sworn in on Thursday. Most of these ministers were part of the cabinet formed after the NDA's impressive comeback in the assembly elections last November. The JDU has a total of 15 ministers, with 13 taking their oaths at Gandhi Maidan. Vijay Kumar Chaudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav had previously been sworn in alongside Samrat Chaudhary in April and were designated as deputy chief ministers.
Return of Notable Ministers
Sanjay Kumar Singh and Sanjay Kumar Paswan from the Lok Janshakti Party (led by Chirag Paswan) have returned to ministerial positions, along with Santosh Kumar Suman and Deepak Prakash, sons of Union Ministers Jitan Ram Manjhi (Hindustani Awam Morcha) and Upendra Kushwaha (Rashtriya Lok Morcha), respectively.
