Significant Policy Change in Bihar's Education Sector

Bihar's Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar, unveiled a major policy shift on Monday aimed at prioritizing local residents in future teacher recruitment processes. He stated that this initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen the state's educational framework. In a post on X, Kumar highlighted that since the government took office in November 2005, there has been a continuous commitment to enhancing the education system. A significant number of teachers have been appointed to bolster this system.

He further instructed the education department to amend relevant regulations to give preference to Bihar residents in teacher appointments. Kumar noted, "This will be implemented from TRE-4, which will take place in 2025, followed by TRE-5 in 2026." He also confirmed that the STET examination will be conducted prior to TRE-5. This announcement comes less than a month after the state initiated a plan to provide 125 units of free electricity to approximately 1.86 crore consumers under the Chief Minister's Electricity Consumer Assistance Scheme.




Previously, the Nitish Kumar administration announced a doubling of the honorarium for cooks, night watchmen, and physical education and health instructors working in government schools. This decision was made just months ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. In a post on the social media platform X, Kumar acknowledged the crucial role these individuals play in strengthening the education system, leading to the decision to significantly increase their honorarium.

He revealed that cooks working under the mid-day meal program will now receive an increased monthly payment of ₹3,300, up from ₹1,650. The honorarium for night watchmen has been raised to ₹10,000 per month, while physical education and health instructors will now earn ₹16,000 monthly, with their annual salary increment increased from ₹200 to ₹400.
