Court Ruling in Shooting Case

A Delhi court has sentenced Bihar BJP legislator Raju Kumar Singh to four years in prison for his involvement in a shooting incident that resulted in the death of Archana Gupta at a farmhouse in South Delhi in 2018. Special Judge Vishal Gogna also ordered Singh to pay ₹25 lakh in compensation to the victim's husband. Singh was convicted last month in connection with the tragic event, which occurred during a New Year's Eve celebration when celebratory gunfire led to the death of the 45-year-old woman. On Friday, he appealed to the court to avoid a prison sentence, arguing that he acted due to a "lack of scientific knowledge," claiming he was unaware of the bullet's parabolic trajectory.

These arguments were presented before Special Judge Vishal Gogna at the Rouse Avenue Court, where discussions regarding the sentencing duration were taking place. The court reserved its order for Saturday. On June 6, Singh, the current MLA from Sahibganj in Bihar, was found guilty. The case revolves around celebratory gunfire at a party held at a farmhouse in Fatehpur Beri, South Delhi, on New Year's Eve in 2018, which struck Archana Gupta, the wife of complainant Vikas Gupta, who attended the party hosted by Singh's brother.
