Bhutanese Delegation Engages with Assam's Chief Minister on Mindfulness City Project

Meeting Highlights Cooperation Between Assam and Bhutan
Guwahati, June 11: A delegation of 11 members from Bhutan's Gelephu Mindfulness City Project visited Assam and Meghalaya, where they met Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at Lok Sewa Bhawan today.
The group comprised members from the Core Working Group of the Gelephu Mindfulness City initiative, along with officials from the Royal Bhutanese Consulate General. This meeting fostered a friendly exchange of ideas, reinforcing the relationship between Assam and Bhutan, as stated in an official release.
During the meeting, Sarma warmly welcomed the delegates, expressing gratitude for their visit and highlighting the importance of the Gelephu Mindfulness City Project in enhancing regional collaboration and sustainable development. He affirmed that the Assam government, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision, is dedicated to supporting this initiative.
The Chief Minister assured the delegation of the state's administration's cooperation and collaboration with both the Royal Government of Bhutan and the Core Working Group.
Sarma emphasized that the project would act as a vital platform for strengthening institutional ties and fostering people-to-people connections between Assam and Bhutan. He pointed out the potential advantages for the youth in both regions, including opportunities in education, skill enhancement, entrepreneurship, and cultural exchanges.
He encouraged the delegation to explore key institutions in Assam, such as higher education and medical facilities, to identify further areas for synergy and collaboration. Additionally, he invited them to utilize various state-run facilities that could serve as models or partners in the development of the Gelephu Mindfulness City.
Reflecting on His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck's earlier visit to Assam, the Chief Minister expressed his hope to host the entire royal family in the future. He stressed the need for ongoing dialogue and collaboration, proposing that during the next visit of the Core Working Group, a larger, multi-sectoral meeting be organized.
This upcoming gathering would aim to include a wide range of stakeholders to enrich discussions and support a comprehensive approach to development and partnership. The meeting concluded with a commitment to strengthening bilateral relations to achieve mutual objectives.
The Bhutanese delegation was led by Dasho Arun Kapur and included notable figures such as former Chief Justice of Bhutan Dasho Tshering Wangchuk and Member of the National Council of Bhutan and MP Dasho Tashi Wangyal, along with other members of the Core Working Group. Two officials from the Royal Bhutanese Consulate General, Consul General Jigme Thinlye Namgyal and Consul Phurpa Tshering, were also present.
