Bhubaneswar Police Uncover Major Arms Smuggling Operation: Five Arrested
Significant Arms Bust in Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar: In a significant operation, police apprehended five individuals in Bhubaneswar on Friday, dismantling an inter-state arms trafficking network.
Following a tip-off, officers from the Airport police station executed a raid in the Pokhariput locality, leading to the arrests, as stated by Police Commissioner S Dev Datta Singh.
Authorities confiscated six illegal firearms during the operation.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Prabin Kumar Singh (40), Raghvendra Singh (28), Abhishek Rajput (31), Indrajit Singh (38), and Sk Sakil (28).
Three of the suspects hail from Balia district in Uttar Pradesh, while one is from Bhind district in Madhya Pradesh, and another from Salepur in Cuttack, Singh noted.
The police recovered four semi-automatic pistols of 7.65 mm caliber, a six-round revolver, a single-shot firearm, 18 rounds of live ammunition, a vehicle, and five mobile phones.
Prabin had been renting a place in the Jatni Gate area for the past two months and is known to be involved in arms smuggling, acquiring illegal weapons from various states.
Sakil was reportedly at the location to purchase a firearm from the group when the police intervened.
The police are currently working to investigate both the previous and subsequent connections of this gang.
