Bhubaneswar Faces Severe Waterlogging: What Residents Need to Know

Impact of Rainfall on Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: On Friday, numerous low-lying regions in Bhubaneswar experienced significant waterlogging, leading to inconveniences for local residents as the city dealt with the aftermath of heavy rainfall.

The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) struggled to manage the water accumulation due to a drainage system that was unable to effectively handle the excess runoff.

BMC Commissioner Rajesh Prabhakar Patil assessed the situation in affected neighborhoods such as Laxmisagar and Badagada, instructing civic personnel to ramp up dewatering efforts and implement swift actions to restore normal conditions.

He noted, “The drain linked to the Daya West Canal was obstructed. We are working with the Water Resources Department to clear it. Unfortunately, this could not be completed before the monsoon due to the involvement of multiple departments.”

He further explained, “Continuous rainfall over the past two days has led to waterlogging. As a temporary solution, we have cut embankments at two locations along the Badagada canal to facilitate water discharge.”

The BMC has recommended that residents avoid the route from Badagad to Rasulgarh and opt for alternative paths.
