Bhopal Woman Arrested for Marrying 25 Men in Seven Months
A Shocking Marriage Scam Unveiled
In a bizarre case reminiscent of a Bollywood plot, a 23-year-old woman has been apprehended for allegedly marrying 25 men across different states within a span of seven months, only to vanish shortly after each marriage with valuables including gold, cash, and electronic gadgets. The individual, identified as Anuradha Paswan, was taken into custody in Bhopal on May 19, following an operation led by the police in Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan.
Details of the Scam Emerge
As reported by a local news outlet, Paswan was involved in a well-organized marriage fraud scheme that targeted unsuspecting bachelors from smaller towns who were eager to tie the knot. Her method involved presenting herself as the perfect bride, completing all necessary legal formalities, and then disappearing shortly after the wedding, leaving the grooms in financial distress.
Victim's Complaint Leads to Arrest
The situation came to light when Vishnu Sharma, a resident of Sawai Madhopur, filed a police report on May 3. He claimed to have paid Rs 2 lakh to agents Sunita and Pappu Meena, who introduced him to Anuradha. The couple had a court marriage on April 20, but by May 2, Sharma returned home to find his bride and all his possessions missing.
Investigation and Arrest
According to reports, she absconded with jewelry, cash, and electronic devices. Acting on Sharma's complaint, the police conducted a covert investigation using an undercover officer posing as a groom. When one of the agents circulated Anuradha's photo for another potential match, law enforcement tracked her to Bhopal and arrested her before she could target another victim.
Background and Ongoing Investigation
Anuradha, originally from Maharajganj in Uttar Pradesh, had previously worked in a hospital before leaving her husband due to a domestic dispute. After relocating to Bhopal, she allegedly became part of a gang involved in matrimonial scams, using WhatsApp groups to deceive individuals. Authorities revealed that she had recently defrauded another man of Rs 2 lakh and was preparing for yet another fraudulent wedding. Several accomplices have been identified, and efforts are underway to dismantle the entire network.
