Major Breakthrough in Kidnapping Case

The Bhopal Crime Branch has achieved a significant milestone by resolving a high-profile ransom case involving the director of an IAS coaching institute, who was targeted for ₹1.89 crore. Six suspects, including the alleged mastermind and a former student of the institute, have been apprehended. According to police officials, the primary suspect, Priyank Sharma, lured the victim, Shubhra Ranjan, from Delhi to Bhopal under the pretext of seminars and the expansion of new coaching centers. Upon her arrival, she was taken to a secluded location and held at gunpoint.

Investigators revealed that the accused coerced the victim into transferring ₹1.89 crore to accounts linked to organizations named 'Janakshila' and 'RS Enterprises' using threats involving firearms and crude weapons. As soon as the crime was reported, the Crime Branch acted swiftly, freezing the transferred funds within hours. Authorities have confirmed that the refund process is underway, and the entire amount is expected to be returned soon.

Details of the Abduction

The victim was staying at a five-star hotel near Bhadbhada before being taken to Baghsewania, where she was confined in a rented flat for two days. During this time, the suspects repeatedly forced her to send money online. In a shocking twist, they even created a fake kidnapping video of an accomplice to intimidate her and prevent her from contacting the police.

The investigation revealed that the rented flat was secured just a day before the crime, and a religious gathering was organized there to muffle any noise and avoid suspicion.

Arrests and Ongoing Investigation

Police reported that armed criminals from Datia and Rewa were brought in to execute this plan. Following the crime, Priyank Sharma allegedly attempted to evade arrest by feigning illness and being admitted to the ICU at AIIMS Bhopal. However, despite protests and chaos from his family members, police apprehended him within the hospital premises. Further investigations indicated that Sharma was planning to flee abroad after the robbery. Authorities are also looking into the potential involvement of his wife in this conspiracy. All six suspects, including the main conspirator, are currently in police custody, and further questioning is ongoing.
