Beth Mooney Anticipates Georgia Voll's Impact in ICC Women's T20 World Cup
Mooney's Confidence in Voll
Australian cricket veteran Beth Mooney has expressed her strong belief in young opener Georgia Voll's potential to excel in the upcoming ICC Women's T20 World Cup. Mooney highlighted that Voll has gained clarity about her game and role, making her a formidable opponent due to her ability to read the length of the ball effectively.
Voll's Impressive Journey
Since her international T20I debut at the beginning of last year, Georgia Voll has made a significant mark. The 22-year-old is set to enter her first T20 World Cup in England and Wales as the top-ranked player in the ICC Women's T20I Batter Rankings, thanks to her outstanding performances over the past 18 months.
In her 12 T20I matches, she has accumulated 474 runs across 12 innings, boasting an impressive average of 39.50 and a strike rate of 156.43, which includes one century and three half-centuries. During this year's Women's Premier League (WPL), she scored 170 runs in six innings, averaging 34.00 with a strike rate of 126.86, highlighted by a remarkable 79 runs in the final against Delhi Capitals.
Mooney's Praise for Voll
Mooney remarked, as reported by ICC, "Voll has set a benchmark for other teams with her recent performances, and I am eager to see her seize the opportunity at the top of the order."
She added, "Having played extensively before her debut for Australia, including for Queensland and Brisbane at a young age, has instilled confidence in her as she steps into international cricket. She possesses a clear understanding of her game and role."
Mooney further emphasized, "Voll is a genuine talent who strikes the ball powerfully and has a keen sense of length, making her a significant threat for us."
A New Opening Partnership
With the retirement of long-time captain Alyssa Healy, Voll has big shoes to fill. However, early signs suggest that the dynamic right-hander could replicate her predecessor's impact and become a dependable option at the top of the batting lineup.
Mooney shared, "For me, partnering with someone new in a T20 World Cup will feel a bit unusual, but thankfully, 'Volly' and I share a great rapport."
She expressed hope that they could recreate the successful partnership she had with Healy, stating, "We aim to open the batting for Australia in crucial matches and enjoy the experience together."
Upcoming Matches
Before their first match against South Africa in Manchester on June 13, Australia will engage in two warm-up games against England and the West Indies.
