Incident of Harassment in Bengaluru

On July 28, a man was apprehended in Bengaluru for allegedly sexually harassing a woman who was waiting for a cab on the street. The police confirmed the arrest on Tuesday.

The suspect has been identified as Vijay Raghav, a 42-year-old fruit vendor residing in the NRI Layout area of Ramamurthy Nagar.

Authorities stated that a First Information Report (FIR) has been filed, and the accused's motorcycle has been confiscated. The incident came to light when the victim shared her experience on Instagram on July 27. She claimed that a man on a scooter approached her, making lewd comments and suggesting sexual favors in exchange for money.

According to the police, the woman was waiting for a cab in Ramamurthy Nagar when the accused began making obscene remarks. She bravely confronted him and started recording his actions on her mobile phone. The man fled the scene when she threatened to call the police.

Later, to assist in identifying the perpetrator, the woman posted the video on Instagram. In her post, she expressed, "As a woman, I have the right to wait for my cab without fear. I should not be treated as an object or be offered money for favors."

She described the comments as frightening and degrading, which raised concerns for her safety. The complainant emphasized that such behavior in public spaces should not be normalized or ignored. She urged the police to identify the accused and take appropriate action, while also calling on the public to speak out against such harassment.

Following the video's circulation on social media and the filing of the complaint, the police successfully located the suspect. A senior police official stated, "We have registered the FIR and arrested the accused."
