Bengaluru Woman Reports Sexual Harassment While Waiting for Cab

On July 28, a man was apprehended in Bengaluru for allegedly sexually harassing a woman who was waiting for a cab. The police confirmed the arrest on Tuesday, stating that a formal complaint has been filed regarding the incident.
According to law enforcement, the situation came to light when the victim shared her experience on Instagram on July 27. She claimed that a man on a scooter approached her, making lewd comments and suggesting a sexual exchange for money. The police reported that the woman was waiting for a cab in Ramamurthy Nagar when the suspect began making inappropriate remarks.
Demonstrating courage, the woman confronted him and began recording his actions on her mobile phone. When she threatened to call the police, the man fled the scene. Later, she posted the video on Instagram to assist in identifying the perpetrator.
In her post, the woman expressed, "As a woman, I have the right to wait for my cab without fear. I am not an inanimate object to receive indecent proposals for money. His comments were frightening and humiliating, making me concerned for my safety." She emphasized that such behavior in public spaces should not be overlooked as normal.
She urged the police to identify the accused and take appropriate action. Additionally, she called on the public to speak out against such harassment. Following the video's circulation on social media and the filing of the complaint, the police successfully located the suspect.
A senior police official stated, "We have registered the complaint and arrested the accused."
