Bengaluru Shaken by Disturbing Assault on Woman Officer in PG Accommodation
Incident Overview
Bengaluru: A distressing event unfolded within the Yelahanka police jurisdiction on Wednesday, where a woman officer was threatened with a knife, sexually assaulted, and robbed while residing in a paying guest (PG) accommodation.
In response to her report, law enforcement has initiated a search for the perpetrator.
The victim, an assistant engineer at the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM), had only recently moved into the PG in Judicial Layout, just 15 days prior. On August 11, she returned to her third-floor room after completing her workday.
Upon hearing a knock at her door, she opened it, believing it was staff from the PG. To her horror, a robber armed with a knife forced his way inside, threatening her and subjecting her to sexual harassment.
The assailant attempted to steal her jewelry, but when she fought back, he seized two mobile phones from her bed and escaped.
Authorities have documented her statement and are reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity to track down the suspect.
Further details about the incident are still pending.
In a related context, Bengaluru Police recently apprehended a PG owner named Ashraf, accused of raping a student. The incident occurred at his PG facility in Soladevanahalli, where he allegedly took a college girl to a secluded area and assaulted her.
Earlier, on June 25, a nursing student reported being raped by her PG owner after confessing to a theft. The suspect, identified as 35-year-old Ravi Teja Reddy, allegedly assaulted the 21-year-old woman after she admitted to stealing three gold rings from another resident.
The victim, who had just joined the PG a week prior while searching for employment, had disconnected the CCTV camera wire during the theft. However, she inquired with another resident if the footage would still be recorded despite the wire being cut, which raised Reddy's suspicions.
In her complaint, the victim stated that Reddy initially touched her inappropriately under the guise of a check-up. When she resisted, he allegedly raped her and subsequently threatened her against disclosing the incident. It was only after receiving support from friends that she found the courage to report the crime.
