Bengaluru Police Nab Man for Filming Women Without Consent: A Disturbing Trend Uncovered
Arrest of a Voyeur in Bengaluru
In Bengaluru, law enforcement officials apprehended a 26-year-old individual for allegedly filming women in public spaces and sharing the footage on social media inappropriately. The suspect, identified as Gurudeep Singh, was taken into custody by the Banashankari police following a suo motu case registration.
The police action was prompted after a woman featured in one of the videos tagged the Bengaluru Police on Instagram, requesting intervention. DCP (South) Lokesh Jagalasar confirmed that the arrest was made based on a suo motu FIR filed at the Banashankari police station.
The FIR, lodged a few weeks prior, has led the police to initiate the process of removing the accused's Instagram account. Reports indicate that Singh recorded videos of women in public locations, such as Church Street, without their consent.
One victim shared her ordeal on Instagram, igniting public outrage. The Instagram account in question claimed to display 'street scenes' but featured unauthorized videos of women, often zooming in on their bodies.
Another woman who reported the incident mentioned that after a video of her was posted, she began receiving inappropriate messages. She emphasized that merely having a public Instagram profile or being in a public area does not equate to consent for filming.
The accused faces charges under Section 78 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act. The FIR alleges that he filmed women from both the front and back in public settings, uploading a total of 45 such videos on Instagram.
The FIR further states, 'By doing so, the accused has violated the privacy of women and harmed their dignity.' Ongoing investigations are being conducted.
