Court Verdict in Bengaluru ISIS Case
In a significant ruling, a special court in Bengaluru has convicted Syed Fasiur Rahman in connection with the Al-Hind ISIS conspiracy case, sentencing him to seven years of rigorous imprisonment. Additionally, the court imposed a fine of ₹48,000 on him. This case pertains to alleged conspiratorial activities linked to the banned terrorist organization ISIS.
Case Initiation in 2020
The investigation began when the Karnataka police registered the case on January 10, 2020. Subsequently, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) took over the case on January 23, 2020, re-registering it. To date, the NIA has filed three charge sheets against 20 accused individuals.
Charges Against Syed Fasiur Rahman
According to the NIA's findings, Rahman participated in meetings related to the alleged conspiracy. The agency claims that these gatherings in Bengaluru involved discussions on advancing ISIS's agenda and planning activities that could incite communal tensions. Furthermore, it was alleged that Rahman played a role in procuring materials related to the training of the purported module.
Main Accused Also Charged
The NIA has identified Mahboob Pasha as the main accused, who allegedly conducted several meetings at his residence in Gurappanpalya, Bengaluru. The agency asserts that these meetings were aimed at furthering the ISIS agenda and inciting communal violence.
Previous Conviction in the Case
Syed Fasiur Rahman is the second individual to be convicted in this case. Earlier, Hanif Khan was found guilty in July 2026 and received a similar sentence of seven years of rigorous imprisonment along with a ₹48,000 fine.
Ongoing NIA Investigation
The NIA has indicated that the investigation is not yet complete. The agency is examining the roles of other individuals connected to the alleged network and their online interactions. This case is part of a broader investigation into the Al-Hind module that emerged in 2020.
Following the court's decision, the case has progressed with another accused facing sentencing. The NIA continues its legal proceedings against other identified suspects and the alleged network.
