Bengaluru Faces Severe Flooding Amid Heavy Rainfall: Government's Commitment to Long-Term Solutions

Bengaluru's Ongoing Flood Crisis

In light of the significant flooding in various areas of Bengaluru due to heavy rainfall, Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar acknowledged on Monday that the city has been grappling with persistent civic issues. He emphasized that this crisis is not a new phenomenon, but his administration is dedicated to addressing it with sustainable, long-term solutions. Shivakumar stated, 'Our officials are working at war footing. Unfortunately, one person has lost their life. I am heading to Bengaluru immediately. The Chief Minister and I will visit the flood-affected areas.'

In a post on social media, Shivakumar clarified, 'The challenges we are facing today are not new. They have been overlooked by various governments and administrations for years. The only difference now is that we are actively working to resolve them—not with temporary fixes, but with enduring solutions.' He expressed deep concern over the devastation caused by the continuous rain in Bengaluru and assured that he is in constant communication with officials, closely monitoring the situation.

Shivakumar also mentioned, 'I will personally assess the situation by visiting the BBMP war room and the flood-affected regions.' He reassured Bengaluru residents, 'I am one of you. I understand your concerns, share your frustrations, and I assure you of my commitment to resolving these issues. I stand with you.' According to the Indian Meteorological Department, Bengaluru received approximately 40 mm of rain in the last 24 hours, leading to extensive waterlogging in low-lying areas. Sai Layout was among the hardest-hit regions, where residents reported soaked furniture, submerged vehicles, and damaged electronics. Many observed fallen tree branches, attributing the flooding to blocked drains and poor civic maintenance.
